Active resistor meshes, characterized by a not homogeneous anisotropic
pattern of local interconnections, present node voltage responses to current
impulses at the nodes that emulate efficiently signal processing functionalities
of visual cortex neurons, organized into orientation maps. Experiments with
artificial and natural textured images validated the approach.
